Sadly Evel Knievel has passed away today at the age of 69. Robert Craig Knievel was orignally from Butte Montana. He appeared on the original Bionic Woman episode "Motorcycle Boogie." He also appeared in a film titled Viva Knievel. A film made about him starring George Hamilton was produced in the early 70's and George Eads starred as Evel Knievel in a cable film. A documentary was made about his career in the 80's called Last of the Gladiators. He was the subject of several other documentaries which aired on various cable channels. A Hannah Barbera cartoon called Devlin was about a motorcycle daredevil similiar to Evel Knievel.

He first came to national attention when he attempted to jump the Ceasar's Falls. John Derek filmed the take off and Linda Evans filmed the landing which has become a very memorable piece of film footage.

Probably his most famous jump was his attempt to jump Snake River canyon in the steam powered X-2 Rocket. The rocket landed in some trees on an island at the bottom of the canyon. If it had landed in the water he would have drowed.

His jumps got huge audiences on ABC's Wide World of Sports. Numerous toys, figures, models, books, posters, lunch boxes, a pinball machine and a Marvel Comic Book featured his likeness in the 70's. Recently there have been remakes produced of the 70's Ideal toys. There also have been a few Evel Knievel video games produced.

My thoughts are with his close family and friends. He had millions of fans all over the world and will be fondly remembered for many years.

I grew up with the guy on TV and he was a real star, he will be missed. There are few of his ilk around today.
