Michelle Ryan has gotten so beat up in the US press over her role as Jamie Sommers. A lot of people on message boards seem to hate her as well. I admit she has at times deliverd lines that did not sound very good.

People say that she has no personality in the role of Jamie. Was she really wrong for the role or is she being held back by bad writing and bad direction courtesy of NBC's screwing with the show? If it's just the at writing isn't very good, then why do so many people not like her?

Michelle put in a lot of very hard work training for the role. She did many of the stunts herself, far more than many other actress in action roles. She banged up her leg and arm. She has a distinctive look as Jaime (long, dark hair, black pants, shoes and leather jacket).

I think viewers expected her to play the same character as Lindsay Wagner's Jaime but as the producers said they only have rights to the name.

It's often the case that actors get blamed for problems on television shows which often they have nothing to do with.

She can act. She did well on Jeckyll and she's very good in the few Eastender's clips I've seen online.

I think the audience had a different expectation for the Jaime Sommers character than what was on screen.

I think she has been very unfairly blamed for her character being inconsistent and under developed whilst Katee Sackhoff has been praised for her character being fully rounded and developed. It's the writing that is at fault not the actress. She should take some of the more constructive criticism on board but she should definitely ignore the petty and often cruel swipes from the numerous "haters".

Likewise.... Alot of the blame for the show seems to have fell, unfairly I might add, on Michelle's shoulders. I think there is still some jealousy about a Brit in lead the role and it is easier to blame her than look beneath the surface at all the other problems. It's likely just the press, per usual, attacking an easy target. Michelle is not going to come and comment on these things so other people take up the negavtive comments and rally round them.

My partner is a fair judge of good acting and whilst she had no love of 'Eastenders' reckons Michelle is doing a good job of what she is being given, but is hampered by the constant re-shuffle of the show's direction and Michelle's character's motivation. As had been said it takes a special kind of person to juggler the physical side of the role and all the training and action scenes, with a straight job of acting. I think Michelle does this, and that's a credit to her right there.

If she shows runs a couple of seasons and people then looked back at the first dozen episdoes I think they would have a different opinion of things and comment how well Michelle has settled into the role, after a shaky start [here's hoping]

People are just plain outright jealous of Michelle, They don't have her looks, Personality or acting skills..Now don't get me wrong when i say this but I've seen Katee Sackhoff in a few Movies before BW and man..talk about Bad acting..so this people think Michelle "can't acted" maybe they should take a look at some of Katee previous work..and besides any one can vent an evil character.. Wink
